Scrapbooking

Den activities are part of the Cub Scouts requirements and at tonights Tiger Den meeting, Maddy and his Daddy made a scrapbook page from photos we took at Seaworld in Orlando Florida a year ago. Matt said he put it together all by himself and was very proud of how it turned out.

Since Maddy likes doing arts and crafts, I might just get him to do a few more, especially of our trip to Rarotonga, Lagi and Tollys wedding, Grandma's visit last year, and a few about our weekend visits to several places around DC.

Raingutter Regatta

Tonight, the Boy Scouts had their Raingutter Regatta boat race at Maddy's school. This is the first time he has ever participated in something like this. He and his Dad were given a small wooden boat, to put together and paint any way they wanted. Maddy chose a silver spray paint for the base of the boat and decorated his sail with lots of different stickers. He also painted a dragon on the top and signed his name.

The tigers started their race around 6.45 pm. Maddy won his first race but lost his second. He still had fun though and did really well, blowing his boat along with a straw. He won the next three races and almost won the last one. He came 2nd overall and was presented a medal as his prize. All the other boys did really well too and were given medals and ribbons for participating. Well Done Tiger Scouts!
I forgot to take the camera (unlike me) so had to use Daddy's phone to take pictures and videos of his races. You might need to tilt your head slightly to the right for the video though LOL

Scouting for Food

This morning the Boy Scouts got together to collect canned foods for the local foodbank. Last weekend was spent delivering the plastic bags around the neighborhood, and today was spent collecting them. The three Tiger Cub Scouts that turned up were Maddy, Gregory and Zachary. They did really well in walking around and checking the porches of every house in the area we were assigned, and collected lots of bags for the Foodbank.

We tagged along to help out and make sure the boys were safe. It was hard to keep up with them especially when they ran from house to house.

All-in-all it was great to be able to take part in a community service like this. Well done Boy Scouts!!

Just a Reminder ...

Popcorn sales for the Cub Scouts end November 7th so hurry on up and fill your order/s before it's too late :) These make wonderful Christmas gifts for family and friends!!!

If you have ordered online, please send me a copy of the order so Maddy gets credit for the sale/s. (Batgran, did you manage ok?)

A big THANK YOU to family and friends who have already done this and for those who have had the popcorn sent to our place, I will send them off as soon as I receive them (Sachi, we have to replace one of your tins because *cough* two big mice ate the chocolate one LOL).

For those who placed their order and paid through me (manually), the popcorn tins will be distributed to me on December 6th and then I'll send them to you.

Thanks once again and we appreciate your contributions towards Maddy's fundraising activities.

Search, Discover, Share, 'Roar' ...

...is the Tiger Cub Motto for Maddy's Den. He had his first meeting tonight with his Dad and 6 other cub scouts and their parents at Stenwood Elementary Cafeteria.

The Den started off with learning the Cub Scout Motto and Cub Scout Salute. Then they were asked if they knew the Pledge of Allegiance, and Maddy put up his hand and when asked to come to the front to demonstrate in front of the class, he quickly said "Oh, ... I forgot." This happened a few times throughout the meeting and when Matt asked him on their way home what happened, he said 'he was too shy'. Hopefully in time he will gain more confidence and not be shy to show and tell the class what he knows.

They also played several games of Quiet Ball (http://www.cbv.ns.ca/sstudies/activities/games/game4.html) and Maddy won, one out of the three games played.

Their homework before the next meeting is to think of one chore they can do with their adult partner, complete it together and discuss certain character connections and responsibilities that come with doing the chores. These family activities are taken from their Tiger Cub Handbook.

At the next Den meeting, they will be going on a short hike and along the way collecting leaves for leaf rubbings (http://herbarium.desu.edu/project_1/page29/page30/page31/page31.html) .
Maddy came home excited and full of energy and said he had a fun night and didn't want it to end.

Tiger Cub Scout

Maddy joined the Boy Scouts Pack 1132 on Friday and is now a member of the Tiger Den. We spent over an hour talking with the Pack and Den Leaders while the boys (60 odd) had fun and games in the school cafeteria. Two of his friends in his class, Jack and Gregory are in the same Den too so he was very happy about that.

The information they gave us along with the Tiger Den booklet, spells out all the activities and things he needs to take part in throughout the year to achieve his awards and badges and be able to move onto the Wolf Den. It looks like it's going to be a very busy year, but with lots of fun and games, community activities, camping as well as fundraising events. (Speaking about fundraising, I'll post on that next LOL).

Maddy couldn't wait to get started and managed to convince his Dad to take him shopping to buy his new scout uniform. When they picked me up from work that afternoon, he was already wearing it.
